Street Buffoon Workshop with Eric Wilcox

Saturday, July 14 / 11-2pm

$350

This intensive will explore the idiotic work of the BUFFOON. Ugly, ridiculous and provocative, buffoons create a surreal world of clashes and shocks that transform to moments of pathos. Wilcox’s method, developed in San Francisco streets and performance spaces, revolves around three core ideas; a world turned upside down, a movement towards the grotesque, and derisive mockery. We will attack these ideas through exercises and group improvisations. Bring knee pads, a broken musical instrument or noisemaker, and your willingness to humiliate yourself in front of others.

A farm boy from Iowa, Eric Wilcox ran away with the circus and refused to come back. He spent decades skulking across the globe as a mime, performing in cities that barely tolerate silence. His SF Buffoons, has managed to insult thousands—often on purpose—and delight the rest by accident. He’s created shows in Istanbul, Berlin, and Tzaghkadzor, and speaks with the scrambled accent of someone who’s been misunderstood in five languages. Eric is thrilled to embody Direktor Grin in Wasteland, a role that finally lets him persecute clowns with state-sanctioned glee.
