Church of Clown
Code of Conduct
The Church of Clown is dedicated to creating a space where everyone can thrive.
Our Code of Conduct outlines the behaviors we expect to ensure our community remains safe, inclusive, and supported. The following is a summary of our full Code of Conduct:
-
Our Goal is for the Church of Clown to be a space where everyone feels safe, included, and supported.
Everyone means: Students, staff, performers, volunteers, audience members, directors, board members, and anyone in the community who has, does, or wants to come to or be involved in the Church of Clown, both as an institution and a physical performance space.
Safe means: Everyone should feel protected from violence, harassment, assault, and psychological harm.
Included means: Everyone feels welcome and represented. We actively strive to ensure inclusion for community members who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women and gender minorities, and anyone else who feels under-resourced or underrepresented in the broader community.
Supported means: Feeling that the Church of Clown community has your back. Anyone who doesn’t feel safe or included can report issues and have them responded to in a manner that is timely, empathetic, & fair.
-
We have two main expectations for everyone in our space:
Be Respectful: We have zero tolerance for harassment or discrimination. We prioritize securing consent for all interactions - artistic or otherwise - and expect individuals to take accountability for their impact on others.
Be Fair: We recognize the inherent power dynamics in a theater and school environment. Leaders (teachers, directors, staff) are held to a higher standard regarding consent and must disclose any conflicts of interest, such as romantic relationships with community members.
-
If you experience or witness a violation of these guidelines, we have established clear reporting channels, ranging from staff to the Board of Directors, including an anonymous feedback form.
We aim for restorative justice where possible, but we have a structured process for investigations and consequences, ranging from warnings to removal from the community, to ensure safety is maintained.
