La búsqueda de cómo ser.
Gra is a little worm-like being living somewhere inside Carmen, a voice that emerges from the cracks between who we are and who we’re supposed to be.
Trying to figure out how to be human, Gra enters a world of rules, desire, shame, pleasure, love, status, and freedom. But every answer seems to contain its opposite.

Love collides with freedom. Power becomes fragility. The mask becomes the face.
Using clown, mime, physical theater, a little bouffon and the language of the fool, Gra explores what contradiction feels like in the body. Gra moves between high and low status, masculine and feminine, human and creature, confidence and vulnerability—constantly trying on the many masks we use to navigate the world, and discovering that none of them quite fit.
Gra is a physical, absurd, poetic, and tender investigation into the strange business of being alive—and a search for a big, creative, funny, poetic life.
Artist Bio
Carmen Aguilar y Wedge (Whoopsie) is an internationally award-winning artist, designer, and physical theater maker flying along the edges of the world. Her work explores the absurdity of being human through mime, clown, movement, and visual storytelling. Drawing from the lineage of fools, tricksters, and outsiders, Carmen uses play and humor to transform strangers into friends and co-creators.
Her solo show Help Wanted premiered in 2024 and won the Best New Flop Award. In 2026, her character Gra won the Audience Choice Award at the Montreal Clown Festival, inspiring Carmen to develop a full-length show around the shapeshifting being as it grapples with the contradictions of being human.
Carmen regularly performs in San Francisco and with Church of Clown and Fou Fou Ha. She is also a founder of Filthy Habits, a clown/bouffon troupe. Recent performances include Vabieka Fest and Estudio Búsqueda in Mexico, Zagreb Clown Festival in Croatia, Montreal Clown Festival in Canada, COHO Clownfest, Oregon Country Fair, and Burning Man.
All Church of Clown events are NOTAFLOF. Please email Sophia at Sophia@churchofclown.org for questions about volunteering, work trade, or scholarships.
