Find Your Groove

Find Your Groove

Taught by Analisa Raya-Flores

Sunday, December 6

11-3pm

Are you a clown who loves to lip sync, a  drag artist who loves a high-concept number, or a  juggler who loves a good beat? Yay! This workshop was designed for you. Whether you’re a seasoned performer or new to the stage, this workshop teaches us how to use music intentionally, rather than just as a soundtrack. We’ll play clown games, practice drag techniques, and even learn to flop musically (think of the worst karaoke you’ve ever heard, but even worse). Music is just one tool in a performer’s toolbox, but if we employ it strategically we can create dynamic and  recognizable characters the audience will never forget– whether we make them fall in love or give them the ick.ndamental physical skills, and have fun!

Who:

Suitable for all levels of musical experience, including no experience! (concert pianists, dancers, or singers in showers).

What to Expect:

  1. physical warm-up suited and adaptable for all bodies and abilities

  2. clown games / being silly & vulnerable in a safe space

  3. dancing / singing / humming (if you “can’t” do these things, even better!)

What to Bring:

  • Water, comfortable clothes, sunglasses & hat and/or scarf

  • Notebook & pen

  • A song you wish you could sing, but would never dare (you won’t have to sing it!)

Instructor Bio:

Analisa Raya-Flores is an autistic Mexican clown who can kind of sing. She’s also the creator of Señor Babyhead, the solo hour of drag, clown, and desperation Eat More Art Vegas called, “A thoughtful and wild hour of mayhem.” Her teaching practice is inspired by a diverse array of clown teachers (from Bill Irwin to Aitor Basauri) as well as her 12+ years as a yoga instructor. Her solo shows have been produced at the Annenberg Beach House, the Elysian Theater, the Lyric Hyperion, Frigid New York, Vegas Theatre Company, Church of Clown (San Francisco), and most recently the Asian Arts Initiative (Philly). She works, worries, and walks her dogs at the foot of the Sierras. For questions, DM  @homeboi_industries
