The Art of Character Creation

A weekend of divising with Laura Murillo Hart from Foggy Notion Theater

May 24 & 25 /  11am - 4pm

Are you a storyteller who longs to bring a unique perspective to your creations? Hungry to create a character so different from yourself your friends forget it’s you up there performing? Are ideas for a show or performance swirling around your head, but you can’t seem to fully flesh out the character inside the story? Then COME PLAY!

This class is designed for actors and clowns looking to deepen their understanding of how to create a physically dynamic and emotionally profound character for the stage. Through physical exploration, ensemble play & coached creative sessions, each student will create their own unique character & devise a short piece. We will play with wild abandon & will use nature as a source of inspiration in our creations!

Bring your funny bone, your heart’s delight, and your willingness to fail!

Cost: $300 (Scholarships Available)

Laura Murillo Hart is an actor-creator, musician, clown and physical theatre practitioner whose work bridges the boundary between the absurd and the profoundly human. With a background rooted in movement, improvisation, and character work, Laura crafts performances that are both physically bold and emotionally resonant. Her practice draws from classical clowning traditions, contemporary devised theatre, and an ever-curious exploration of the body as a storytelling tool.

Laura received her BFA from the Theatre School at DePaul University and her MFA at Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre. A passionate advocate for accessible and inclusive performance, Laura is committed to expanding the reach of physical theatre and clowning to new communities and contexts.
