Street Buffoon
Saturday July 14-18 7pm-9pm

This intensive will explore the idiotic work of the BUFFOON. Ugly, ridiculous and provocative, buffoons create a surreal world of clashes and shocks that transform to moments of pathos. Wilcox’s method, developed in San Francisco streets and performance spaces, revolves around three core ideas; a world turned upside down, a movement towards the grotesque, and derisive mockery. We will attack these ideas through exercises and group improvisations. Bring knee pads, a broken musical instrument or noisemaker, and your willingness to humiliate yourself in front of others.

Eric Wilcox is a performance artist based in San Francisco. As a mime actor, Eric played countless wordless shows in schools and theaters around the world. In San Francisco with the street buffoon gang, SF Buffoons, Eric gleefully insulted thousands and created unique hybrid performances. In Germany he co-produced the MIME>BERLIN festival and summer mime intensive. His themes include; identity, memory, time, desire, and how to deprogram the body.  He is keenly aware of the power of theater to dissolve social boundaries and bring people together.
