Metaphysical Mime
A Deep Dive into the Art of Silent Storytelling
Step beyond words and into the raw, expressive language of the body in this immersive course on corporeal mime and metaphysical performance. Guided by director and mime artist Jamin Jollo, this extended training is designed for actors, dancers, movement artists, and curious creatives eager to unlock the full imaginative potential of silent theatre.
In this ten week journey, students will engage in physical and theatrical training rooted in the techniques of mime masters Etienne Decroux, Jacques Copeau, and Marcel Marceau. Building upon these foundational philosophies, we will incorporate masked mime traditions that translate our imaginations into arresting, poetic performance.
Each session includes a physical warm-up, technical exercises, improvisational prompts, and ensemble-based storytelling games. Participants will explore the narrative power of gesture, stillness, and "where is the lens?" all while cultivating presence, emotional depth, and the ability to conjure vivid worlds with nothing but breath and body.
Mime is not mere pantomime—it is a metaphysical, soul-stirring discipline. Expect to sweat, play, push limits, reflect deeply, and rediscover the profound joy of physical creativity. The course culminates in a final showing, where students present original or collaborative mime compositions developed throughout the class.
Bring comfortable clothing for movement, water, a notebook, and a willingness to be vulnerable, playful, and brave.
